I went to see this 1955 van the other day. Unfortunately it is returning to nature and too far gone to restore. The chasis was broke and the back body completely distorted, even the gutters in the cab were gone. :cry:<br>Image<br><br>Image<br>

Petrol filler cap looks ok! There must be plenty of things on there that are worth saving (trafficator assembly etc)

Yes its still complete and all correct, but its about half a mile up an overgrown disused lane. My mate Bert wanted it as he thought that even just the cab could have been saved and put on another chasis. Ended up we didnt ask if the price.....

I don't think even the scrap man would touch it, it might diminish his stock!

I'd be daft enough to save that if it was nearer. Especially if its got ID and history. Plenty of chassis about, the rare bits such as the LCV bonnet and bumper look ok, the cab isn't damaged. The rear is savable f you were keen enough (new panel up to waist line and full guttering set etc), though another rear body would be easier....
Can see the ad now: 'would suit keen welder with plenty of spare time'... :D

I'm with you on that - I'd just love to save it. However I'm already spread too thin and despite having re-homed 3 cars this year I still have too many :( (and already have a basket case Minor dissolving itslef in to the ground)

At the least the cab would save, and when you look the van roof is undented much nicer than a grp one if you can save it. Looks a very original van, its even got the tall header tank on the rad...

Makes mine look good though!

Don't look at these two travellers then! Found these earlier this year and no they wouldn't save. Been there for over 30 years, huddled together in adversity...

make a nice garden ornament/leaky shed

got offered a van (not splitscreen) the other day. Nowhere for me to store it here so i asked my mum if she would like a lovely blue shed :lol:

the floors, and sill were shot, we were wondering if you did need to move it how? Trust me a heavy breeze would make the whole back end totally collapse!!!!!!! PS is this turning into a rest in peace section?

Here is one I saved earlier......I also hate to see early vans go to the scrap yard....mine was slightly better....but was still a lot of work...

surely someone should take off the good bits off that van! those trafficator boxes and split screen! I would try getting it out of there if the cab stays intact that's enough!

yes it'd be a tricky thing to load onto a trailer. I've moved a few structurally unstable cars before, and its a difficult choice of wether to dismantle on site and risk more damage or try and bring it back in one lump and risk it wobbling itself to bits...
