Seam sealer

I was wondering if it is a good idea to put seam sealer underneath the doors?

Not understanding - where do you want to seam seal - the seams on the underside of the doors after weld repairs ?? Most important thing is to ensure penetration into any seams with rust killer - then by all means seal them up. But do leave good drain holes in the doors because rain pours in past the window seals - and it has to be able to escape.

Sorry, my last post was not really descriptive enough.

I recently had quite alot of welding done and was introduced to seam sealer. All of the welded seams were sealed with the stuff and done a very good job at sealing and protecting from the elements. Since then I started to look at other seams that were not weld joints and started to wonder if seam sealer would be good in there too. I have put some in a few other joints already such as just underneath the guttering part of the van. I then looked under the doors and found seams under there too. But i thought I'd seek advice before doing any more as i'm not 100% it is the correct thing to do. By the way all of the areas I'm cosidering seam sealing have been sanded and zinc primed and I am trying to do a neat job by cleaning off the excess sealer with thinners before the top coat is applied. The picture below shows the two outer seams under the door.<br><br>

Well - the door looks quite rusty - so i would remove as much paint/rust as you can - and then apply Jenolite or similar. Also - spray some down inside the door so it soaks into the metal from the inside. When that has all dried up - prime and paint the underside - then spray lashings of waxoyl down the inside of the door! Seam selaer unless applied to fresh new joints, just traps rust/moisture inside and it will work away there very nicely.
