Insurance (Again)

Post by MColes »

I know this has been covered a few times already in other threads on here but I was wondering how the 'younger' (no offence meant ) members manage.

I'm 19 and hopefully about to pass my test. I have phoned up a couple of insurance companies (AON and HIC) and as I've never had to get a quote before was quite stumped on some of the questions they asked.

Basically I'll be using the moggy everyday (hopefully ) for to and from uni so what should I do about limiting my mileage?

Also should I tell them I use the car to travel to uni?

Try to calculate how many miles you're likely to do in a year and add say 50% extra on. Then keep an eye on how many you've actually done and let them know if you're going to exceed the agreed figure before the end of the year.
Also should I tell them I use the car to travel to uni?
That's probably a good idea.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

When I phoned AON for a quote I told them mileage of around 3K a year. When I thought about it I knew straight away it was a stupid thing to say.

I calculated it and it works out I'll do at least 150 miles a week just between home and uni. I phoned up AON and ammeneded the quote I got and they told me that the amount of mileage I would do would have to be classed as 'unlimited' and due to my age that puts the cost up.

£1200 was the quote!!!!!!!!! :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

They must have changed their policy then, sorry :( Originally they were Wren Insurance and insured our two 17 year old daughters for a very good premium.

Did you phone them up or check on the internet? Some companies will only give quotes to over 25s on the internet but will still be happy to quote a younger driver if you phone up.

I phoned them. First thing they asked was whether I was under 25 or over 79. I don't think I'm over 79 so it must have been because I'm to young

Sorry to be a pain (and *I* don't give a flying one about it) but I don't think that as a mod you're allowed to :(

i just put all my details in the top three comparison websites and rang the top three of each of those to haggle with them, it saves ringing each one giving them your details for quarter of an hour just to find out they dont do under twenty fives or cant have classic without a garage etc. its usually the same ones at the top anyway so you'll prob have to speak to about two or three anyway, and if you say you've got other people you want to speak to and you'll ring them back they usually make a even better offer aswell. (i found getting breakdown cover in with the insurance cheaper than getting it seperate aswell.) i need to do mine this week (got my first years no claims but i cant use it cause i havent had a license for a year yet :( )if i get a good deal i'll post it on this thread.

What, you mean like this?

As you can see, I am not recommending, only suggesting an alternative to assist a Morris Minor enthusiast that is having some difficulty. But if someone is suggesting that I do not do this, providing everyone else complies, so will I

However if anyone wants any similar assistance, perhaps they should visit the other site that I'm a Moderator of :D

Did you tell AON that you were a member of the club?
