making up wiper system

Post by morrisman1 »

im in need of a wiper system (cable and cogs) for my 65 flatdeck. trouble is over here parts for late models are pretty hard to come by and i dont have a wiper system for one of these.

what i want to find out, is can i just get some appropriate tubing and put flares on each end and put them into the original thingees (i hope you know what a thingee is) but have both thingees up the same way so that the wipers are rotating in sync (rather than in opposite direction to each other). i would obviously make the tubing in the middle the appropriate length, thus converting an earlier arrangement to a later one

my luck also means thatn all four wiper motors i have here are foobared, one is intermittant (lucas unofficial feature) and the others are siezed/dont work. i can source another motor easily though.

thanks

You may be able to use - or modify - a wiper system from a Mini. Otherwise - if you can make the flares etc, I don't see why your plan would not work!

You can definitely make your own tubing & put your wheel boxes where you like.

I'm not too sure how clear the photo is but have a look at my van in my signature - I fitted 3 wipers this way :D .

how about spsres from a M.G i know that when i had my mini and just bought my moggy my friend had trouble getting a wiper system sorted for his frog eye sprite as he needed a 110 deg wheel ,

not shure what wheel is in the motor of a MG but i know you may struggle with a mini wipermotor unless you change main drive wheel

With a grinder & welder, you can relocate the drive peg to give whatever degree of sweep you need.

Unless you can work out the exact position though, it may be by trial & error.
