I was there but I don't remember that part very well. ISTR there was a chap who stood up and gave a short presentation about what the working group had been doing.
The main thing I remember from last year's AGM was the argument over why the club offers a discount to seniors but not to those on incapacity benefit. It was dismissed as being a data protection issue...

I didn't manage to spot any 'facts' in their arguement IIRC.It was dismissed as being a data protection issue...
There was more mention of 'encouraging younger members' again, but no acceptance when a student suggested a student discount scheme. Seems logical to me when most students will be far more strapped for cash than some of the elder members.

As I have said before, I believe that if our club is to survive it needs to change, and to change it needs committed enthusiasm.

Rome wasn't built in a day - think chinese water torture and the 'drip drip' effect.
Some things take time, but as a whole, the club provides excellent services. I find it frustrating if/when opportunities are missed but that doesn't mean I'll stop suggesting them. ;-)

Same here Ray, and as I have previously posted some of my suggestions, it will be interesting to see if they are adopted.rayofleamington wrote:I find it frustrating if/when opportunities are missed but that doesn't mean I'll stop suggesting them. ;-)
Additionally, from reading Minor Matters, it would appear that the National Rally was a great success.

But time is being wasted and golden opportunities being missed. Why is there so much resistance to good ideas that could entice new members or satisfy existing ones.rayofleamington wrote:Rome wasn't built in a day - think chinese water torture and the 'drip drip' effect.

I agree the club does do several duties well, but these are often self perpetuating services , the likes of the insurance discounts. What it is less able to do is to accept that a degree of members would like more from the club, and are prepared to suggest ideas with enthusiasm, only to have this dashed at the first hurdle, eventually feeling ignored then falling into apathy.
Many good ideas have been suggested by this forum over the past few years, only one I believe, reached a raw nerve, and the 'working group' was born , only to fall by the wayside when it should have been gaining impetus.
As for the National, I have yet to see one that showed either loyalty or respect to its members, unless we go as far back as Blenhiem.
Forget the drip, drip technique, its got us no further in the last ten years, and if we are to see meaningfull change then we require a more receptive hierachy.

well my local non affliliated club put on a fine rally this year to mark the 60th well done ESMC
it is a shame the hierarcy do not show the same enthusiasm as those on here for the morris minor and its club
maybe its time for a change of hierarcy, or the club will stay the same
of course we can not vouch for the members that are not on the internet and seem satisfied with their LOT
the ckub must change, and listen to the members, or we will see many more break away groups forming

Steve started this thread to raise the question of manufacturing new swivel pins. I support his initiative 100%. I'm not quite sure why the thread has degenerated to a "knock the club, it never does what I want" line. Steve made a suggestion, and there seemed to be plenty of people prepared to declare that it couldn't be done. That's exactly the reason nothing gets done. If we all pulled together then we might be able to get new swivel pins.
Its not at all new for threads to wander, and this is no different.
Steves original question was answered in several ways and my suggestion that the MMOC Ltd would be hard pushed to release the funds required to place a meaningfull order to satisfy both private and trade demand still stands. It was not defeatet in and way but a 'realistic' not 'idealistic' answer based on many years in the Minor world and the engineering hoops and costs that are required for limited manufacture.
I cannot see that 'pulling together ' will help, infact we need to try and support a company that for what ever reason has fallen foul of poor production, where in the past their supply had bee perfectly acceptable. I agree that the situation is tedious and inconvenient.
This thread may benefit from being split and another thread started if need be , but I rescent the implication that recent contributions ,not on the swivel pin topic are presented to 'knock the club'.
Its a fact that the reason that some people complain, is due mainly because its seen that the MMOC hierachy is as you say 'the reason nothing gets done'. If we all pulled together then maybe change could be effected, I think most people would rather evolution rather than revolution and its high time that the 'drip drip' aproach was given more urgency.
Why is it that when someone complains or would like to discuss different ways of doing things, that this is seen as knocking the club, the forum is by nature a place for debate, or have I got it wrong
