What is a "screwhammer"?

Post by linearaudio »

Some watch the telly to unwind. Me, I read. At the moment I'm on a Victorian novel kick, and have just re-read "three men on the Bummel". In the text relating to servicing? of the bicycles JKJ twice refers to using a screwhammer. Googling doesn't give any clue as to what sort of tool it would be. Any thoughts, anyone? I'm guessing impact wrenches hadn't been invented then!

Ho! another old time reference! Well done- actually getting down to it being an implement to loosen/tighten nuts rather than screws. Must get a copy of that book out for a bit more unwinding material. :D

is it not something you shout when you hit your hand with a mallet? Or would that be more unprintable words?
