Hey guys, quick question whats the mpg round town? dolly seems to be drinking the fuel ,ive had everything tuned correctly so everything is running right.but im guessing its returning about 23-25 mpg?
Around town - could very well be right. Longish runs you 'may' get 40 mpg, although some claim better - I doubt the accuracy of their mileometers! Or - they are driving around at 40 mph!!
blimy i need to do somthing with it im using it everyday and money isnt that great at the moment,im struggling to keep it on the road.Anybody know how to do a diy lpg kit?
My 1098 was averaging around 37mpg and I know my speedo reads slow. This is a mix of town and motorway (60mph max). I'm just putting a 1275 in so I'm not sure if it will be better or worse !!

Compare the Minors - Simples !! http://mog.myfreeforum.org/index.php
Well my 1275cc with mixed town driving returns low 30's with an iffy engine and carb, maybe your carb is badly worn as this can creep up on you over a period of time.

I get 38 mpg average, driving to work, shopping and the trip to college (50 mile each way dual carriage way).
On a long run, I get 44mpg. If you arent getting these firgures from a Minor, then either the car isnt running right or your right foot is too heavy! Driving style and maintainance go a long way to helping fuel economy.
Speedo is fairly accurate, having compared it to my 944.
In 1959, when the Mini first came out, we had one in the workshop under warranty for heavy fuel consumption. No computers to check it against of course, so we made up a test tank. On mixed running, the Mini averaged 32mpg. When we reported this to BMC, they said this was within their parameters, and would not meet the claim.
When the owner asked our foreman how he could get the 50mpg that others were claiming, he said "Sir, you do the same as they do-- you lie about it!"
I've had mid 40's out of a 1098 but that was with a higher diff. It actually managed 47mpg on the start of 2007 LEO but was running so lean it was missfiring! When I worked out the mpg it only took me a few seconds to work out the cause of the missfire
'Around' town can mean many things. When you are sitting in stationary traffic you are achieving 0mpg so if the traffic is bad, 25mpg is good.

i think it could be the engine and carb worn,Getting a hell alot of blue smoke coming out of the exhaust.Lucky Ive got another engine apparently it was re coned ..........any ideas how i can tell?
So things to do on dolly
Replace
Engine
Gearbox
propshaft
raditator
Fully service the new engine
and respray all the engine bay.
blue/black when burning oil
white/grey/black when running too rich

There's 2 wildly different ways:
1) Fit it in and run it. If it runs sweet as a nut and oil pressure is high even when driven hard on a hot day, then it's good.
2) Strip it and look for honing marks in the bores and to see if the piston machining marks have been rubbed off. Measure crank carefully and inspect the shells.

right im crap with inspecting engines lol.i might have to go with the fit it and run it.if anybody wants to come n give a hand you are more then welcome haha ill supply as much tea and cake as you can drink, and a full dinner ;) lol.i guess it must be burning oil then will need to try and get it back on the road as soon as possible as i cannot afford to be off the road long
If you're geting blue smoke out of the exhaust it usually means the pistons are shot.
unless it's at start up and after an overun as that is likely to be valve guides.
