Mildred is out of hospital

Post by Jay-Minor »

As some of you are aware “Mildred” became seriously ill on the way home from France (MOT 2008) and the engine was well past it’s sell by date, after limping home from France she has been locked in the garage awaiting a suitable donor.
Luckily we eventually found a donor in the form of a 1275cc, five speed gear box, 3 branch manifold, nice carb and a suitable propshaft, unfortunately the donor was in bits so could not make the trip to my home town in Southampton so poor old “Mildred” had to suffer the long drive (120 miles ) to Neil’s Hospital in Warwick. She only just made it!
Some of you may know doctor Neil (owner of “Marmite”) who kindly offered to carry out the Minor surgery (pun intended) on “Mildred” with the aid of myself and Neil’s understudy Ryan (Neil’s son), the hospital was set on a built up area in Warwick and the surgery was carried out in the waiting room (on the driveway) owing to lack of space as there was a very poorly Traveller awaiting surgery in the theatre (the garage).
The operation started Friday afternoon and was completed by tea time on Sunday, this also included a few hours spent at Gaydon on the Saturday as it is only 8 or so miles from Neil’s Hospital.
“Mildred” finally arrived home Sunday night and after a small bit of fettling to ensure she is okay, she went on a run on the M27 today clocking up 80 mph before I had to pull in her reigns as I did not want her over doing it after such an operation. I can only assume that the donor had to be a lot younger than “Mildred” as she is now behaving like a teenager on Viagra.
My kind thanks go to all the staff at Neil’s Hospital including the junior doctor Ryan and nurse Debbie for keeping the refreshments going.

PS I may now have to rename her "Mildred The Beast"

Was the Minor gearbox any good? I forgot to ask, but a friend of mine was after one last month and may still need one!

He's away in France at the moment so i'm waiting for him to get back to me to see if he got one already.
Many thanks for the offer - I won't be taking it for free though as that's far too generous! We'll be able to work something out though ;-)

Was a quick lick of paint put in the engine bay as the rear of the battery tray and the wiper motor appear to have changed colour
Cheers

Maybe but an ideal time to spruce things up a little especially if the weather is on your side.
