Lower Trunnion

Post by d_harris »

Cars come back from the MOT. Failed on a tiny patch of corrosion at the rear spring hanger (easy fix) and play in the lower side drivers trunnion.

Question is which way does the drivers side lower unthread? Just trying to see if I have a spare kicking around

I hope it is the trunnion and not the swivel that's worn, given the ongoing supply situation... :-?

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Thats the idea we are coming round to. Its a lot of hard work this.

Any tips for getting the blasted thing removed, it seems really really tight, as does one thats not on the car!

You need to take the cross-pin out before you can unscrew it from the swivel.

if you cant undo the bottom trunnion from the arm, is there an easy way to tell if its worn when on the bench?

I wouldn't use it if it's so seized up you can't unscrew it. Try taking the grease nipple off and squirting plus gas in, heating it up with a blowtorch, and working it back and forth with a long lever.

Seized up sounds good - at least it's not wobbling about loose. Heat and plus gas should get it going - then lashings of grease of course.
