I have just bought a Morris Minor!

Hello! Just to introduce myself, I am Lizzie from North Yorks. I have never owned a Morris before, I am Landy mad but need to find something to be obsessed about that is easier on juice. I have just impulse bought a Morris Minor 1000 1967! I am collecting the pieces today!

Now, what do you guys recon... do I smooth off the front end, stick in a Jag back axel etc etc and make her a Hot Rod. Would that be a bad, evil thing to do...? or, do I dismantle her and re-build her to showroom condition????

The pieces are in off white primer. Not much needs doing baring a shed load of welding. Also needs re-spraying, but which colour? Something correct, or something far out... I have always liked lime green!

I'm all for original, as I believe this helps hold the value up. But it's your car so whatever floats your boat really. If it keeps the scrap man at bay, then it's good news all round.

Hi Lizzie and welcome! Its your car so you do whatever you want with it. There are plenty of original ones already and the Minor is a car that can be improved easily.

So it isnt just me thats into Landies?? I have two Series 3s, one very original and the other with a 90 diesel conversion. Love the Landies!

A standard (ish) moggie is great on petrol, the 1098cc in my saloon gets over 40mpg easily.

Have fun and make your Minor just how you want it to be, another one saved.

Your car is not a particularly rare one so you certaintly won't upset too many people if you 'hot rod' it. But it's your car so you can do as you please of course!

Only 'original' cars are rare, and becoming rarer all the time. It must be remembered that cars that are rebuilt to original spec are not 'original'. But as has been said, it's your car

StaffsMoggie... I like what you have done with your S3. It is a nice compromise, taking the best of the 90 (ie, better engine, decent wheels that the centres won't fall out of, bigger mirrors so you can see etc, etc, but keeping the S3 front for the vintage look and not disguising it as a 90 with a fiberglass front!) Bet it looks well with its canvas on

I guess I will do something similar with my Moggie in the end, use the best of the modern to make it more usable in modern traffic. It is llike with the landies, the mirrors, brakes and lights of 30 plus years ago mean you aren't that safe in modern trafic. Because they can screach to a halt with their ABS they think ALL vehicles can. .. If everyone else is on hallogens and you are on sealed beams people don't see you easily. Guess the eye of the motorist has become tuned to expecting more lights than Blackpool seafront.

I think I will work on improving the brakes and other safety stuff first, take it you can fit a better servo.... Maybe put in a roll bar. Anyone know how a Moggie would fare in an accident without one?

Original to me means that all parts fitted are the original ones fitted at the factory at the time of the cars production, and have not been 'restored' etc. To me any car restored to original specification, is by its very nature a copy i.e. an original broom, only two new heads and one handle

Again in my opinion, any car that is largely original, should be kept, as far as possible, in that condition.

However please don't misunderstand, I also feel that any car that is in danger of being scrapped, is better restored than lost. Equally any car that has very few original parts left. In fact my own modified convertible is a good example of this.

A good restored car is a credit to its restorer.

1967 saloon is common as muck, its not like you're chopping up anything rare or particularly valuable.

If you wanted to keep it original(-ish) there are plenty of period mods you could do so it'd still be a valid 'classic' but, imo, why bother if you dont have to?
