Big Tyres

Post by PSL184 »

Has anyone tried fitting 185 70 14 tyres?
Are there any clearance issues?

Well - not on standard Minor wheels I hope! I think Moggytech has this size on 'Minilite' wheels.

I'm running 185 60 14s on mine.I needed 1/8th spacers on the front to stop the tyre rubbing on the rubber seal at the bottom of the top trunnion. Apparently there are 2 different hub castings around - one needs spacers, the other doesn't. 185 70 may be slightly different due to the height of the sidewall, but reckon on spacers. You'll also need longer studs if you're using alloys (I hope you're not using standard wheels!)

No, not standard wheels. I've seen some Minilites with these tyres fitted already....

I had a car in with 195s on minilites:

It was on Ford vented discs so non standard hubs. Certainly filled the arches well. Must be the widest you can go on standard suspension I would have thought.
cheers

I have 185/65/r14 on montego wheels (marina PCD) so the offset might be wrong, they didnt rub but were very very close so I have some 3mm spacers

I have 185/60/14 on the rear of my modified car and 175/65/14 on the front but they are on peugeot steel wheels with a MK2 Escort rear axle and JLH hubs with Ford discs.

Yes, I thought so - good job the rear springs and dampers are new though or I think they would foul the arches. Theres not too much room for movement in there.....

The wheel offset would be the issue as you could potentially foul the rear spring - the high cut wings (mudguards) would clear the tyres OK.

With the high cut rear wings, what about 15 or 16" rims?
