Used Panels - Availability and Price

Post by DavetheMinor »

New to The Minor Scene, and enjoying it so far. Breathing life into someone elses family car from the 70s which they all want to get back on the road to enjoy again.

Have had a look through the classifieds and not hadmuch joy.

What is the availability of late 2 door used doors and boot lids?

What sort of price should I expect to pay if I find solid useable ones?

I know things sell for what they buyer pis ready to pay, but I don't want to walk away from a good door at £40 or "snap one up" for £200.......

Thanks

from what I saw at the last national there are stil plenty of parts around! in used condition also many new panels are still available at many suppliers like boot lid repair panels, fiberglass bootlids and even 2 dr door skins but I think you'd be better off with 2nd hand good items

also as far as suppliers go ESM and BULLMOTIF are the best around I referred to 2nd hand parts being better as these are probably Morris originals and new pattern parts tend to be cheaper quality and harder to fit

I have already used Bullmotif and found them to be a good supplier for other stuff.

I have spent 20 years renovating, restoring and racing beetles and had to put up with poor pattern body panels, until recently when small scale manufacturers have started to make fantastic repro panels which are actually better than the orignals in terms of quality, fit and practicality.

Autocraft in the Brum area make em for old VW vans - they have amassed and borrowed a whole load of NOS repair panels, or taken wrecked vans apart to get to panels no longer available, picked a certain panel out of a scrapper, and made press moulds/ jigs for them.

The end result is often better than original -I've fitted quite a few of them to different vehicles and they seem to go on even better than NOS.

Chic Doig in Ecosseland has some boot lids and doors - he had them at Culzean recently. http://www.motorbase.com/contact/by-id/423/

Obviously it's a distance from you - but carriage is no more than from anywhere else.
