An idea for 2009
As well as already thinking about next years LEO Run, I am also considering an additional event for those that like to visit different areas, but are concerned by the relatively high mileages involved, and prefer a more relaxed holiday.
My idea would be to have an event somewhat like the long established MOT, but on this occasion base it in a scenic area of the UK. Britain does have a lot to offer.
In a similar fashion to MOT, various highlights would be incorporated into it, such as a group drive to a local attraction, and a meal etc, but again like MOT these would not be compulsory, and entrants could take part in as much or little as they liked.
Early days yet, but any ideas, suggestions, and of course potential entrants would be very welcome.

What about a round Britain tour? Not the whole country obviously but maybe a 300mile circuit taking in a large area over a week, with areas booked for each day (Welsh Marches, Peak District, Cotswolds perhaps) Minor owners can come and join in whenever/wherever they like. A come for a day/weekend or the whole week sort of thing. Feasibly, it could end at the national rally even?
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.
Thanks for the input
Just a couple of points that must be borne in mind.
1. The idea of having a base, is to avoid the need to be continually 'de-camping', This is something that people have raised previously.
2. Timing. This is in many cases controlled by personal holiday arrangements.
Of course, as with the LEO, we welcome anyone to join us at any point.
Any more suggestions/ideas?

You could plan a series of events over a few years, so could do Cornwall/Devon one year move up into Dorset /Wiltshire ,then over to Kent and move up or around the country, or just pop different regions into a hat and draw out the next years venues.
You might be able to 'latch' onto several shows, both car and non car related which might well keep camping and venue costs down. A sort of 'rolling minor attraction' plus an enjoyable way of seeing the country.
Maybe you could come on part of the Minor Gumball Rally when I get it off the ground

Does this prove my theory that many Minor owners prefer working on their cars as opposed to driving them?

Re: An idea for 2009
We've been doing exactly this in the East kent branch for the last three years. In 2006 we went to the Isle of Wight in convoy for a long weekend, 2007 long bank holiday weekend was New Forest, including Beulieu, and this time was Goodwood trip/ Hayling island and visit to local attractions.Judge wrote:As well as already thinking about next years LEO Run, I am also considering an additional event for those that like to visit different areas, but are concerned by the relatively high mileages involved, and prefer a more relaxed holiday.

Great Idea- the East Kent branch has made it work- a Morris Minor club holiday. Its best to organise along club branch lines.
Its quite an adventure, and I'm pleased to say, apart from a flat tyre and dodgy wiper wheel box, my Traveller made all this trips without a hitch

Cheers John - all comments IMHO

So we can count on you coming then CJ
However I am thinking more on a whole of Britain type coverage rather than staying in a relatively small area. This should then cater equally for those that enjoy a reasonable drive, as well as for those that enjoy exploring areas new to them, but do not want to be continually de-camping.

Thanks Dale, I do seem to be receiving quite a lot of support for this idea. I'll have my work cut out next year planning this and the LEO Run

Thanks guys. It looks like I'll have to get an LCV
In the meantime any ideas, suggestions, and of course more potential entrants would be very welcome.
By the way a touch of originality, I've decided to call it 'MOT-UK'
