So-now I've got the Wolseley brakes lined up for the Traveller, I'm looking to the next phase. I've gathered together an MG metro inlet manifold, HIF38 carb (currently fitted with an ADP needle) and a standard 1275 12G940 head(not MG). I would like to be able to bolt this lot on and have it start and run reasonably from scratch. What needle should I be aiming at? Will the ADP be anywhere near? I'm sure amongst you experts the answer, or a close guess, must lurk!!
Exactly my 1098 engine spec - I will have a look what needle is in my carb for you - can't remember now ! But - it will run on that ADP needle - so don't panic!
Somehow thought the answer might come from your direction!- it felt like I was dangling a (hypothetical) carrot as I wrote it!! Many thanks, as for the tips about the Wolseley brakes.
Just a thought though- why have you not stuck a MG cam in there? Any particular reason? I was going to work in that direction, but am quite willing to be put off the idea!
My 'spare' 1098 engine is sitting on the bench with MG cam installed. Idea is to fit it when the first engine fails - it's been sitting for 3 years now! That's despite best efforts to hammer the first engine to death! You can't fit MG cam without changing the oil pump - so it is an engine-out job.
Sorry if I'm drifting a bit, but when the clutch finally needs replacing, could the oil pump be accessed then, by removing the gearbox? Might that then be a good time for me to explore the cam change?
Ok - I opened up my carb today and confirmed what I thought I had remembered - AAA needle. It works well for me - nice light beige plugs - I'm running N6Y in that engine, Champions of course! It's set on the weak side at idle for best economy - and still goes well enough.
