Procedure for removing wiper arm spindle/linkage?

Post by MGFmad »

I want to remove the wiper arm spindles, or at the least, the chrome cover around the spindle where it sticks through the body so I can respray the car without masking around the chrome cover.

I have removed the wiper arm and the nut around the spindle, should the chrome cover just lift off or is there something else I need to do?

Thanks :D

It should lift off but probably stuck on with years of muck etc. The wiper spindles should drop down so you can then lever the chrome turrets off with a screwdriver...

You will probably want to replace the rubber gaskets when you put the chrome pieces back on to avoid leaks. I wouldn't recommend changing the chrome bits unless you can find NOS ones because the reproduction type I bought didn't fit properly (the angle of the bottom was wrong).

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Once you take the cardboard bin bits out of the dash it'll become obvious how you remove the actual spindles. The rest has already been covered above.
What would Macgyver do..?
