Re-registering a moggy

Ok I may have bought an old morris, it hasn't been on the road for so long its dropped off the DVLA database and so I need to re register it. Apparently it may need to be inspected by a DVLA approved club to verify through its records whether the plate belongs to that vehicle. What I'm asking is does anyone know if the MMOC has the capability to do this? Although its not the end of the world I'd like to see the original plate stay with the car! I'm asking on here instead of contacting the club as I've let my membership lapse....considerably.

Yes Rob Tomasson the club's technical advisor is the person to contact as he deals with these sorts of issues.

What you need is proof that the number belongs with the vehicle suchas old mot or tax discs or tax book. Then you get form V765 fill it in and send it off. It will have to be inspected by a club official who has to confirm in writng that they consider it to be the same vehicle. I recenty had to do this for the lowlight, it had been issued with an age related number and I had enough documents to prove that it was the vehicle, with some assistence from club officials both in Northern Ireland and from Sandy Hamilton in the main club. Sandy is now retired from this post but has lots of great knowledge on the subject.

So renew you membership! And good luck with getting the number back, it can be a slow process.

I've had to do this twice with vehicles that had been off the road 30+ years. If you have enough documentation the process is smooth.
For my 54 I had the old paper logbook, and therefore didn't even need to pay a registration fee.
For my 57 it was more difficult and I managed to get it sorted by paying for a BMIHT production certificate.

There is a fee to be paid for having the club official approval of the paperwork but that's normal in classic car clubs.

Ok thank you all, I've been meaning to renew my membership since I started looking for another car. How much paper work I will have depends on whether the old boy can find anything. I should be getting the car back on saturday. Hopefully I can get a truck booked to collect it!

I would just apply for the V5 - sending them some pictures of the car with reg plates visible - and copies of any old documents you get with the car. They may just send you the V5 - it's worth a go!

I would just apply for the V5

As DVLA said it's not on the computer, then there is no V5 to apply for.

can i do this with my saloon converted to a convertible or do i need to get dvla out to check it ? nice cuppa if any one from the owners club can do this

In theory it is simple but DVLA can make a mess of this (some have been given Q plate) so best to get advice from the club officials prior to applying to DLA. I remember a discussion with Rosie Hamilton on this so she might be a good person to ask for advice
