New Pick Up

Post by PSL184 »

My mate has just bought this. He's got big plans for it in the "Beardmore" styley...... I'm sure he'll be along himself soon enough but I thought I'd share it first (as it seems it's my fault that he bought it) :P
Image
Please (even with my beleif in "it's your car, do what you want with it") ask him to think hard about fibreglass/home made/different backs before cutting an original one. They're rare, and would probably sell for good money

Yes, it seems pretty solid by all accounts - as long as the descriptions match the product he should be well pleased. Picking it up at the weekend - can't wait to see it in the flesh. I'm almost as excited as he is !!

Hi BG. He wants to widen the rear end and flare out the arches. If you can point me in the right direction for FG backs I'll pass on the info. You are right about destroying "rare" items - shouldn't be done....

before cutting an original one.
seems to me that it has a swage line missing (I could be wrong) so are they already cut down from a van?

So it does. The tops and inner section of the top are proper pickup ones (unlike the pickup back on ebay last week, that the owner insisted was genuine but had obviously home made top rails) but the missing swage line does suggest a cut down van body, unless its been well skimmed over and concealed....
cheers

well done! often it's the hardest thing to do but the only sensible option.
There are some good value pick ups avaiable but they are becoming few and far between. Even the scrappers can reach 4 figure sums if they find rose tinted spectacle buyers to raise the cash.

Yes, it was tough, its a real nice truck. But, as you say, not worth the aggro it could potentially lead too :-(

Why did he think he had the right to sell it if he didn't own it?

He said the truck had been left at his garage for 10 years by the owner and he couldn't trace the owner so he wanted to get rid of it. We contacted the DVLA and they said it was sorned by someone in January. Guy who had truck said it wasn't him and if the owner wanted it back they would have to pay £50K storage fees for past 10 years. It all sounded too fishy so we left it. Sad part is that he is now talking about scrapping it.

as far as I can tel 0171 was only valid between 1995 and 2000 so ifit had been standing 10 years it must have been very shortly after bbeing sign written.
