Can someone remind me whether the servo nose connection is the 'in' or the 'out' please?

Also does anyone have experience of using the cheapo ebay brake pipe flaring tools? I only need to do a few, many thanks, John

Not sure about the servo connection - but I do know it should be mounted 'nose up'. I have a cheap Draper flare tool set and it works fine. However the instructions are 'mince' and should be discarded, just follow your instinct and put a drop of brake fluid on the end of the pipe as lubricant before making the flare.

The connection on the nose is the 'out' (to brakes). Cheap flaring tools are OK, but spending a wee bit more will buy a better tool. Is it just me, and everybody else has heard this "put a drop of brake fluid on the end of the pipe as lubricant" thing before? I haven't - either heard it or done it, with no noticeable ill effects. Using brake fluid to lubricate the flaring tool is common practice.

IMPORTANT. Only use brake fluid and NEVER oil when forming brake pipe ends.

It's to prevent contamination of the brake fluid in the lines. It only takes a trace of oil in brake fluid to cause break down of the fluid. Quality copper pipe comes with an 'inner cleanliness spec'.

The reason for some lubricant is because you are forming a metal flange by rolling the metal - and it should be lubricated to ease that operation without risk of the pipe 'splitting'. I'm pretty sure it's the one part of the Draper instructions that I followed ! Brake fluid rather than oil/grease for contamination reasons!
