Traveller on ebay

Post by PSL184 »

Hi All
I'm thinking of having a look at this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... :IT&ih=006
What do you think?
Is that the original colour?
Does it look like its worth a closer look?
Its quite a distance from me so I thought I'd get some more opinions before I travelled to see it.
Thanks

Looks like it used to be dove grey. That would explain the red interior.
I think, looking at the price now, that the reserve might be a bit high.
The way that paint is peeling off the wiper area I would expect the rest to follow suite.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

This was also on ebay a while back. Same seller, i think it just didn't meet its reserve.

Maybe 'll wait until they get bored of advertising it and drop their reserve. It's a pretty little car though I think.....

This reserve lark gets on my nerves! These people should expect time wasters as they are in effect wasting bidders time. Why not just tell the world what you want for it and stop letting people guess.

I'm after a traveller myself (I already have a dark green '58 similar to the subject vehicle, although mine started life that way...) but am reluctant to get one from ebay for exactly that sort of reason. The old fashioned private sale is dead it seems...

I'll lurk around in the background on the 'bay until one comes up on a buy it now at a price that won't cause my wallet to burst into flames... (My '58 I was given free 11 years ago!)

doctormorris, I would recommend you contact the person, view the car as you would a normal sale and ask him how much he wants. Whether you think the price is reasonable or not then place the bid on ebay, at the amount you think it's worth and what you are prepared to pay. Then let ebay bid for you. :) If it's still below the reserve, well the seller has just probably paid another £50 for a none sale!!

Seller has a nice looking MG in the garage - so I very much doubt there will be much wrong with the Traveller. Offer him what you think it is worth - and then haggle a deal face to face ! ebay is just an 'introductory service' for car sales.

Things get more and more bizarre :-? How can "a nice looking MG in the garage" be any indication of the state of a Morris Traveller, and how can Ebay be "just an 'introductory service'"? If a seller was daft enough to name a price outside the auction and be offered it, it would be an indication that the auction was worth carrying on with, I'd say - and I confidently await the 'always take the first offer' standard reply

I still think it's over priced. The pictures hint at tatty paint in many areas and that wood (despite being described as 'excellent') is bare and untreated which suggests neglect.
Viewing is a must.
