Fibreglass mould

Post by Peetee »

Some advice please.
I have a fibreglass gearbox cover panel from which I want to make a copy.
I though maybe:

1. covering it in clingfilm, forming a few FG layers on top, removing the pattern and adding layers to the inside of the new panel.

2. Making a papermache top mould then foming the new FG mould inside

Over to you.... :-?

Whichever way you do it, please make sure the original remains intact! :D

I wouldn't say too much about this affair on this forum Peetee. Unless your gearbox cover is home made, their are only two companies who supply these B'ham and ourselves, Neither of whom would be too pleased if our designs were being copied and molds taken.

I can see your point Johnathon. However I think doing this would broaden my skills without commercial gain. Sort of a foundation course without the college.

I doubt papier mache would have any great strength! J has given you a pretty clear indicator of his thoughts about 'copying' proprietary parts - I would take that warning.

A careful eye is being kept on this thread - time to (at least temporarily) lock it, I'd say before it goes astray. Sorry folks
