Wiring for Key/Iginition/Steering lock

Post by fweddy »

I've got a late LCV with steering lock. When I stripped the vehicle out to re-do I coded all my wires but now on putting it back together I've run into a problem! I coded the wires that I took off the Key/Iginition/Steering lock but I never had any corresponding codes left where they attach

Can anyone help me with what's goes where? ie wire colours. Haynes Manual doesn't help as it doesn't cover the steering lock. :x

Does any one have a Minor with steering lock? I'm not sure if the saloons had them did they? Here in NZ only the '72 and '73 LCVs had them - but we didn't have saloons from about '63 on.

I do have some more info - There are four wires to connect to the five connectors on the back of the lock as shown above. The colours are:

Brown/Blue
White/Red
Plain White - thin wire
Plain White - thicker wire.

If some one can match the wire colours to the numbers above I'll be able to get up and running - tonight I put my condenser and bottom hose in place which basically leaves me to setting the points, changing the plugs and filling with liquids and we should be running after 2½ years (fingers crossed) - as long as the ignition is connected!

The latest cars, especially the Adderly Park Travellers (IIRC) were fitted with column locks and often, alternators from the factory. Someone ought to know. I don't think my workshop manual lists it, but I could be wrong - can't find it at the mo'

That makes sense, we normally had large stocks of parts and hence were normally about 2 years behind with changes during the later years - this fact also allowed us to produced for another few years after the UK stopped. I think I have the answer now but I have yet to try it.

After viewing another vehicle here in NZ I now have this sussed. I was given wiring of a UK vehicle which was different, (added part).

Correct wiring was

Two whites on 4

Blue/Brown on 2

White/Red on 3

After figuring out the firing order (different to Haynes Manual!) and the timing setup it started right up - not bad after being out of the vehicle and not running for 2½. Had a wee brakeless drive round the paddock.

Bit of painting and finishing and and I'll be on the road.

Will be a wee while yet - finishing includes painting exterior and mounting deck and cab back, door assembly, lights, seats, glass . . . but am having a good run at getting it done recently
