oil pump cover plate

i am rebuilding my 1098 engine

is the oil pump cover just laid in or is it soldered to the rear cover plate

i know there is a gasket between the the oil pump and housing in the block

There was no solder on mine. I used some Hylomar Blue gasket sealant at the joint when I put it back together.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

there was no solder when i took it out

it just says in the manual could be a cause for leaks and says resolder

ok thanks will do the hylomar

Just sits in - no harm putting hylomar on it - but it doesn't need it. There really shouldn't be any oil there.
