could anyone tell me if the half shafts on the moggy are universal for all models, or are they different lengths.

I am sure they are all the same length, have you come across some a little shorter because I think the Spridget ones are slightly shorter.

Yes - Spridget axle is ~ 3" narrower, so each shaft probably 1.5" shorter. Otherwise -Minor/Wolseley 1500 and Riley 1.5 all the same.

Early cars have a different wheelstud spacing so the halfshaft flanges will be different.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.

The axle is a totally different set up on these cars.

I have seen a pair of shafts on ebay for sale that came out of a 1000cc car, so would they fit a '56 splitscreen.

The dimensions of them should be fine!

Provided it has the later slatted grille - then yes. If it's the 'cheesegrater' grille it may have the early axle - completely different.
