Re: half shafts
Eventually they go, usually at some inconvenient moment like trying to cross a busy roundabout, at which point you will lose all ability to move.sidsmith wrote:reading in the latest mag' the article was on about half shafts so is it possible to have my half shafts on my '56 splitty hardened or would I have to buy a new pair that are already hardened. incidentally they are performing fine at the moment , I am wondering if they break very often.
You can get hardened halfshafts, mine I believe are the same as on a land rover. Not sure whether it is possible to have existing ones hardened, suspect not.

I would doubt the wisdom of 'hardening' an old half shaft. Unless you have considerable extra power and/or are vicious with the clutch the originals should be fine. If worried- - have them out and inspect the einner splines. If there is an obvious twist - then change them. And ALWAYS put the back on the same side they came out of.
