14 Get the tracking checked.
15 Clean and de-grease the engine bay.
16 Check the oil levels in the dampers.
17 Replace the air filter.
Item 1-done, but not hung on the car until I finsh everything else.
Item 8-done (see post about oil filter in Mechanical section).
Item 9-to be done tonight.
Item 17-done.

2 weeks - hmm. I'm nearly half way on the welding.

Have repaired/replaced (offside only):
Front inner wing & flitch extension and engine bay floor.
repaired front chassis leg
rebuilt centre section of chassis
replaced floor (most of it)
fitted new sill and repaired boxing plate, repaired inner step.
rebuilt bottom of B post / back corner of cab
rebuilt rear inner arch (hand made the 3D curved outer 3.5" which meets the outer arch perfectly, although my metal forming skills are still close to non existant)
replaced rear outer arch
repaired bed panel in a handful of places.
disassembled brakes and found/fixed some problems.

If the nearside takes more work than the offside, then I might get in to trouble :roll:

My plans have changed (as usual - without my prior knowledge)

I'll no longer have the lively (mad) dog for the scotland part of the trip as my friend doesn't need a dog sitter anymore. She's also decided not to travel up to JOG to pick me up on the Monday, because someone told her the road isn't straight!

Therefore I'm rather in need of a lift from Orkney to somewhere towards Inverness on the Monday :(

I'm happy to share driving and equally happy to sit in a back seat underneath luggage - any lift will be a good lift!

I can still give you a lift on Monday, Ray.

Lintilla's engine block (minus the head) is now rebuilt and ready to go back in. Today I'm going to work on the ancillaries and possibly weld up a hole on the top of the front crossmember.

Well, the oil filter seems to be oil tight after the problems I had getting the rubber seal in (see post in mechanical section).

However, on taking it for a run last night, the ignition kept glowing, and the car started running roughly. I belted the regulator a few times which caused the ignition light to go out, but then it came on again. The lights were dim, and eventually the car stopped running. The ammeter was not registering any charge flowing into the battery.

Got back to the house, took the battery off and sure enough it was flat as a pancake. It's now on charge via a mains charger.

I have had problems with charging before and tried several times to adjust the regulator. I think the battery is not too bad-it will charge from a mains charger and hold it's charge ok. The dynamo brushes were ok when I last looked (November) and the car hasn't done much mileage since then. Haven't checked the actual output from the dynamo yet, but it was within spec last time I checked.

Question is-do I forget trying to adjust the reg and buy a new one?

I'd go for a working second hand one, but that's because I have more faith in good old parts than new ones :(

I'm just trying to book ferries now that I know which car I 'should' be taking. Their website says other prices for 'car derived vans' and I'm only looking for a one way, so hopefully will still get the sponsored 30% discount on normal prices.

I've failed the initiative test though!! Which ferry are we taking from Scrabster? There's more than one that day

Which ferry are we taking from Scrabster?

0845 ex-Scrabster.

I think I will get a new reg. They are only £18 or so from BM. Tried bidding on ebay a couple of times but always lost out, they seem to go for about £15, and you don't know what you are getting.

Neil it can be worth while trying a large jubilee clip or clips and trying them in different positions as this may help if its out of balance.

Kevin, thanks for that. I am going to try turning the prop shaft through 180 degrees first as it's not impossible that it's been reassembled the wrong way round in the past.
