cleaning under the body

I have a '57 minor saloon which I will be rust proofing shortly. Which is the best method for cleaning the road film, oil etc from under the car? I was going to use a degreaser then wash it off with a water blaster whilst it's on a hoist. I'm a little worried though about forcing water into places it shouldn't go. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

The way you've described would be the best way, but I'd take out the carpets just in case water came up through apertures such as clutch pedal, gear lever, etc. I wouldn't be too concerned with water going where it shouldn't as long as all the drain holes are present & clear.

It would be worthwhile trying to blow through the drain holes with an airgun to make sure they are clear. Failing that, a piece of wire or thin screwdriver will suffuce. You'll probably blow loose paint/underseal off while pressure washing too.

Can't be serious all the time... Surely water in the footwells near the headlight switch is clearly a present danger....

Go straight in with an angle grinder and twist knot wire brush. Cam had a picture of one a while back. I swear by it.

im doing the same gradually now, use a wire brush, takes longer, but you can get quite a lot of muck from under it this way

wd40 it will slip between the undreseal an the inner wings and allow the underseal to fall of. you need to break a hole through the underseal to allow the wd40 to penertrate behind.. then flood it. leave it a week or so add more wd40 whenever you want to. get a flat scraper and seperate the underseal from the body. it does work. capillary action.

Thanks for that suggestion, I was wondering how to get all that underseal cack off the INSIDE of shy's floor, now I know - may make driving a little slippy though
