2 thoughts:-

1 How about devising some sort of Rally Plaque, like those seen on '60's rallys like the Monte Carlo, or Tulip? Perhaps laminated paper which we could attache to a bumper?

2 When we get to Scrabster, how about a gruop photo with our cars lined up in fron of the boat? This might be appreciated by the ferry company in return for the discount crossings.

We used to have this type of rally plaque for the MOT, but they are very costly to produce. However if someone wants to come up with a design and produce it, I'm very much in favour.

I have mentioned the ferry companies generosity in various correspondence, but I think this is a very good idea. I will discuss the possibilities directly with the company and keep you posted.

I'm working on small window stickers (in my copious free time!) and have considered making plaques of the sort you describe for the AIR. I can do A4 laminated sheets easily. Can you point me at some photos of plaques that have been used at past events? I suppose I could just do a blown-up version of the window sticker design.

Alex, try Dragonfly Design Ltd (on internet) they have done the rally plaques in the past for MOT's - they have the shape Neil is taking about - mounts on the front grille/bumper.

I have used them myself for rally plaques in the past.

So you want it to look like this?
Image

Looks very simple to do. How wide are they? Do you put them on both front and back of each car?

I'm guessing there's some reason for making them that particular shape...

They're the ones :D Usually have two small holes at either side for attaching to the car. About 12" X 7" should be about right.

It would have to be 11.5" then - A4 is the biggest I can do.

I have contacted the ferry company, and have been advised that with the quick turnround time and check in not being beside the boat, it may be difficult. However if we can find somewhere, it shouldn't present a problem.

Just the site I was looking at earlier!

Another is
http://www.jimpike.co.uk/id44.html
This has larger photos.

Alex I will happily give you some money for a plaque if you can rustle some up. I currently don't have a printer.

We could even have car numbers on them to make it more realistic!

Thanks for contacting Northlink Bill-I suspected they might have a problem with space & turnround times, but I reckon we should be able to do something.

cheers,
Neil

Another thought regarding photos-we ought to try to get a group photo with every car that is joining us for part of the journey, ie the 10 or so that are going the whole way plus every car that joins for a day or so.

I see. The Monte Carlo one is a slightly different shape.

How do you allocate the car numbers?

As it's the 60th anniversary, start with the oldest at no. 60, the next oldest at 61 etc. etc.

I'm not sure if it would work better with the Land's End - Orkney bit under the car number instead.

Alternatively I could enlarge the rectangular part downwards and put LAND'S END - ORKNEY underneath RALLYE MORRIS-MINOR. I think "MANILUX - MARSEILLE" might actually have been the name of the manufacturer...
