What needle for my carb?
Just wondering what needle i should get for my HIF38 seeing as im servicing. Im running a standard head but with MG metro cam, howley manifold and an LCB.
Oh and this is probably a bit anal, but on what side of the rocker cover should the "Morris" plate and "patents" plate be when looking down on the engine in situ i.e. actually in the car!
thanks,
YG

I think you need a copy of Winsu as it will give you the advised spec against any combinations used I am led to believe, I think a couple of posters on here have used it, although the only foolproof way is with a rolling road.
The Morris plate should be on the drivers side of the rocker cover and the patents on the passenger side and both should be facing outwards so they can be read when looking from over the wing/

Anyone know what needle was used when fitted to a 1.0L Metro? 'Cos that's what I've got with a fairly similar engine spec to YG's by the sound of it and it runs pretty well (though I suspect tuned more for economy than power).
If it's like a needle for an HS2 then it'll be stamped with the code on a flat bit at, erm, the thick end.

So better not run it on Shell petrol then!youngun wrote:Hmmm my needle has BP stamped on the shank......
But seriously folks, I think you can install and run WinSU for free if you just want to compare needle profiles, you have to pay if you want it to recommend a needle. So you'll be able to compare your BP needle with, say, the AAA needle that bmc has suggested. I'm sure I've got a Metro Haynes manual at home which might say what needle is used on a 1.0L metro. I'll have to have a look for it.
