oil leak at the front

Post by Pascal »

Hi,

My engine is leaking oil behind the crank pulley. What bit am I likely to have to replace?

The timing cover oil seal.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Is it a big job to replace it?

Worst part is getting the starter 'dog' undone. Best way is to fit a spanner (I use stillsons) resting on nearside chassis leg - then remove spark plugs and operate the starter motor ! You may wish to remove the rad to get good access although it can be done with rad in place. But first -check your engine breathers are clear beause any pressure in the block will make even a good seal leak oil.

Good point. Where are the breathers, and what do they look like?
