...and if you were to remove it, I bet you'd find a layer of rust underneath :D

Plus they seem to have changed the Hammerite recipe completely - I'm sure it's safer for the environment now but it surely isn't the same stuff that it was in years gone by.......

I know people who've spayed their cars with Smoothrite (including one who used aerosol cans of it, suitably warmed!) and have had good results. At the end of the day, a paintjob's only as good as what's underneath it.
To me, a paintjob's gotta succeed on two fronts.
1. It must look good.
2. It must be durable so it carries on looking good.
