Where is the part number on a HIF44?

Anybody know whereabouts on the car this information can be found? I'd like to know what car it came from - on the side of the carb there's a hole straight through to the fuel chamber, so it looks as though it might have been one of a pair.

Now, since an Ital engine doesn't need two carbs I need to block up said little hole, otherwise I'll have petrol p*****g all over the engine. Not good.

EDIT: Oh, and where do I lubricate it when I reassemble the carb?

Think that hole is a breather - don't block it! It doesn't need lubrication as such (provided the throttle plate moves nicely) - but once installed put 3 in 1 in the dash pot as normal.

A 5mm hole into the float chamber is a breather? It sounds downright dangerous to me.

It's obvious where the engine breather and fuel inlet go, but this is extra, and there's no means of attaching a pipe.

Have you got a photo?

There is a breather comes off the side of the carb, on some models it would then have a pipe running down over the bellhousing/ transfer gear case (Minis and Metros bear in mind), on others it would simply have a plastic cap on the end of the short brass pipe sticking out. A hole doesn't sound right though, but maybe it's a hole that used to have a bit of pipe stuffed in it, that has fallen out at some point?

The OD of the metal pipe that goes into the float chamber would be around 5mm, which makes me think it could still be that, just with the pipe missing (broken/ fallen off?).

There's still the breather that attaches between the butterfly and the piston - Do you mean that there's another from the float chamber? What's its purpose?

If it was blocked on some models then that seems easiest to me, but if it had a real purpose on others I'd like to know what that is before I block it.

Also the carb id is normally a little alloy tag with code on it under a screw.

I found that, but the part number corresponds to a HS6 from a 1700 Princess

And is it not an HS6 ? The HS carb has the external float chamber - a picture would help us!

No, it's definitely a HIF. The page that Kevin linked to seems to help. I think I'll run a breather pipe down toward the floor and see what happens.
