Differential question

Post by MarkyB »

Any one know ( or care to speculate ) whether it is possible to replace the half-shaft bearings in the diff without having to redo the "set-up" of the whole thing?

The carrier bearings can be replaced without needing to disturb the pinion set up, but you should set up the shims for the carrier itself.

No special BMC workshop tools are required, but you do need to be able to measure over the new bearings when fitted without shims and have a dial gauge to measure the backlash.

I have the detailed instructions scanned from the BMC manual if you would like a copy?
