I'm hatching a number of ideas for the trav, some of which may come to fruition but most probably wont.........
Now one of the biggest idea is that a lot of the chromey stuff I want to have painted. Essentially everything but the bumpers and door handles. Can I just paint over the chrome (assuming its in good nick!)? My Feeling is that its unlikely to last long if I do that.
Or, Is is possible to get non-chromed bits that I can paint?
I'm thinking I want to have non-chrome
Hockey Sticks
Top Trim
Grille Surround
Bits around the headlights
Bonnet Flash and Morrris Logo
Rings around the rear lights (trav)
How about swapping any good bits of chrome you have with bad bits from someone else then rubbing them down and painting that way?

Well, I wasn't intending on using good chrome if I could help it. Considering what chrome is like at the moment it'd probabally be easier to get some of the new tat thats available and work with that (no rubbing down needed ). NO WAY would I ruin good old chrome.
Ideally you should remove the chrome layer with acid, then prep with etch and primer then top coat. Chrome will not allow good adhesion for even etch, so do remove it. You can paint onto pitted surfaces ,again once the chrome is removed but its a lot of stopping up and prep.
iadealy you should send them to a chrome plater and let them dechrome them , as jonathon said nothing will adhere to chrome satisfactoraly, and acid is not something you should be playing around with yourself
on a serious note though it depends on what type of aicd and what the strengh is. I mean most people come into contact with acids on a daily basis and think nothing of it (Vinegar on your chips anyone?)
and we at home are fairly adept with corrosive / slightly dangerous substances.
I've got two hockey sticks that are black if you want them, i did have a top bar as well but proved hard to remove and got bent! but paint still stuck! and wasn't acid dipped, just keyed and sprayed! also trim rings but not well sprayed!

Yes, but not all of us have access to a blasting cabinet!!
motherofgod, cheers for the offer, but if its just gone down the keyed primed sprayed route on those bits its probabally a whole load less hassle to do it myself than mucking around posting/paypaling etc.... besides, i'm not planning on going black.....
