Preparing for the 2008 AGM

Post by Judge »

As the previous thread has gone completely off topic   I have started this thread as suggested by Squiggle.

Bill - If you're going to be receiving copies of the minutes is there any reason why they can't be published on this site, as per Chrissie's suggestion?

I would like to attend the AGM this year but as it is still 5 months away I won't be able to confirm my availability until a lot nearer the time as it will be dependant on work commitments :(

As all MMOC members are fully entitled to receive copies of meeting minutes, I personally can see no justifiable reason why these cannot be posted under the Members Only area of the site.

However as far as the minutes of the last AGM are concerned, I doubt very much that these will be posted, as they will not be approved until this years meeting.

So are you saying that we might only view the 06 minutes, or 07 but not approved.
Before the distractions on the other post only a handful of members had shown their approval or disapproval to the 08 National. It would be interesting to conduct a survey for both sections just to gain the support for the continuation of this post, and why we are doing it.
As with many topics prior to this one, a lot of hot air is blown only to fall flat on its face when action or commitment is asked for. This I fear was more than evident at the 07 AGM having had some quite long and heated discussion on the 07 National.
:-? :D

The minutes of all previous AGM's should be available to all members, but whether or not the unapproved 2007 minutes would be sent out is a question that must be addressed to the club.

If a survey is carried out, and I personally believe this would be a good idea for all aspects of the club, as you say, there must be a commitment from those involved if the events of last years meeting are not to be repeated.

Bill is it worth a survey from the website users on the highs and lows of the National which you could then collate and present to the committee as our Liason and maybe those of us involved with Branches could do a similar survey ?
Cheers

Thanks Kevin, that's a very good idea. Anybody against this suggestion?

I seem to remember suggesting that too, on 27th June!

An organised survey asking for comments on the good and bad points would be useful to the organisers for future rallies

I had already started to sort the wheat from the chaff of the previous postings, i.e. using this as a part of the survey. However I think it better that we start again, hence the post. I also want to make it quite clear that those that take part, must be prepared to stand up and be counted.

Should we set up a list of questions to aid the focus? Copies could be sent to the branches etc......

oops, this has already been suggested......sorry

eg

1. Do you think a professional events organiser should be employed?
If yes, to do what part of the organising?

2. What did you enjoy/appreciate most?

3. What did you least enjoy/appreciate?

4. What events do you think should be included?

5. ........Add your own.......

I intend to be at the AGM and I volunteer to request the minutes and get permission [if necessary] to post on this site. Perhaps we could have a list of volunteer tasks to avoid duplication.

Unless anyone objects.

Would folk like to volunteer to do other bits and bobs to prepare?

Just ideas......

Judge, I assume you are OK with being our Liason person.....much appreciated.

Brilliant. Who do I email for the copies of the minutes. Shall I request 2006 and 2007?

I'd like to emphasize that I am not in any way 'attacking' the club. I want to assist with clarity and communication in my humble way.

Actually there are other questions I've never been able to get answers to. Possibly as I didn't ask the right people. Sorry if this is the case.

eg Why is such a large amount of money invested by the MMOC? What plans might be in place for it?

How does one get elected on the committee?

Maybe [dare I say] another thread 'Questions about the MMOC for the AGM.....'

OK maybe not

If you want financial questions answered may I suggest you contact the club treasurer direct. It's a big business (in S Wales terms) with roundabout £1/4 million turnover which must have a fully computerised system so the answers should be there 'at the press of a button'

As Ray Newell is the Secretary I would suggest you write to him, but also send a copy to John Frye. However as I have said previously, I am uncertain as to whether or not they will send out a copy of unapproved minutes.

Likewise, although there may be those that believe otherwise. Yes I have raised a number of issues, both here and at committee, however these have always been in an effort to make the club better, and stronger.

OK maybe not
As this thread is headed, 'Preparing for the 2008 AGM' I see no reason why it should be simply limited to the National Rally, I am sure I can separate the individual questions and present them as appropriate.

You may find that permission to answer any questions will have to come from the committee.

Is there a procedure in place? You say 'you might find'......

I assume you mean to decide how questions are answered rather than a decision not to answer them might be chosen.

I know it sounds naive but are there some answers we are not entitled to as members?

Just wondered.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will do my 'homework'......
