Oh the Excitment!!!!!!!

Post by mogimad »

After nearly two years under a blue tarpaulin, and e-bay gatting a bashing for parts i have finaly got the garage cleared and ready to start my 58 convertible project.
As it stands i have:-

The rolling shell of the convertible that was semi restored and resprayed in a lovely shade of "Poo Brown" :-? then parked up and forgotten about.

1300 marina A+ engine, Ford t9 box, Marina rear axel, telescopic shocks, anti tramp bars, Front marina torsion bars and hub assembly with disc brakes, telescopic shocks and anti roll bar. All have been fitted to a mog previously so any mods required are already done.
MGF 14" Minilite style wheels.

One 2 door donor vehicle for all those little things that wil be reqired along the way.

Im still working on what colour to finish her in and there will be a new interior from Newton commercials.

Looking forward to getting started and even more getting finished!!

Derek.

Yep, it's definitely a non moggy colour. What i left out the first post was that it was resprayed in 1981 and then partly put together, basicly the wings and doors bonnet and boot lid and that was it really. Then it was garaged until i picked it up in April 06. If you can cast your mind back to the 80's, remember that brown colour Vauxhall used on the " Cavaleir", well thats the one!

Started the video diary yesterday, stripped off the wings and front panel today, hopefully the engine and box tommorow, everything else but the rear axle over the week end and then it'll be off for a date with the Media Blasters to get in to all those edges and bits that nitromorse and elbow grease wont do.
Although the shell is in good condition there is maybe a few small bits that might need attention, all shall be reveiled when it returns from blasting.

Once it's stripped i'll need to do an itinarery and list all the stuff i have, what will be reqired, what can find a new home and what will need to be sorced. Although i have a complete donor vehicle, i think i would be reluctant to start taking thing off it as it's in pretty good condititon. Maybe that'll be the following project..........................you never know!

progress update..........

Thats the car stripped of all but the rear axel an doors.
I will be informed by the Blasters on Monday of the time scale for them to ply their trade!!!

Not to worry though as there is plenty of replacement parts to be cleaned up and re-furbished.
Also spent some time at the local paint suppliers trying to match a deep metallic red with a guitar that i had custom made for me by a local luthier in Glasgow.

If anyone is into/playing guitars check out his web site www.moonguitars.co.uk

Jimmy Moon is a master at his profession and has a very impressive list of clients, any way back to the car, i have two choices of paint , one is a real dark metallic maroon , a subtle twist on a standard Mog colour. But i am more drawn to a brighter more vibrant metallic red/maroon.

I will be contacting Newton Commercials tomorrow for samples of materials eg. vinyl, piping and carpet.

All in all im really pleased with progress so far, although the body shell looks good , who knows what i'll get back from the blasters.................................Fingers crossed.

Derek.
