I have just purchased a clutch kit for my 1967 traveller with a 1098 engine and it\'s to big, what could have been changed in the past for a smaller one to have been fitted.
The engine number (270430) is the same as in the log book.
Wrong clutch

??We need bmcecosse on the job here!
you think it has a Wolsely 9" flywheel??
GERRYCAPON,
A picture speaks a thousand words... any chance of getting one of both clutches?
The 1098 clutch cover is physically a lot bigger (deeper and bigger diameter) than the 948. However it's the most likely culprit for a swap! It's very common for people to cannibalise parts between a scrap Minor and a roadworthy one. If they had done this, they would have had to swap the flywheel, clutch assy and also the release bearing.
Whilst you're at it, you might want to check that the gearbox casing is a ribbed one. The 1098 and 948 gearbox are interchangeable but the 1098 is much more robust. (The 948 has a smooth case)
If it is a 948 clutch, then to swap back to 1098 you'd need the correct flywheel and release bearing too.
