Hi all,
In order to do a reasonable job of recoating the wood, what is the minimum I need to remove from the car?
My thoughts:
back doors.
lights.
I need to get this done as quickly as possible so I can't afford the time to take the panels off, for instance (apart from the back doors, one of which needs new wood anyway). What do folks do about window channels?
Another thing: is there a metal panel along the underside of the bottom rear rail? I can see it being good to get that off.
Ta.

With the window channels masking tape should suffice when applying the finish. By metal panel do you mean the one behind the rear bumper that the irons go through.
If you are on a tight time scale I believe the Bugess treatment is the quickest to use as its drying time is quite short.

Errm, it is a right-angle that goes along the back and underneath? If so, yes. I guess I'll need to take the bumper off.Kevin wrote:With the window channels masking tape should suffice when applying the finish. By metal panel do you mean the one behind the rear bumper that the irons go through.
I ask about window channels as I'm not sure how to get treatment into them.
I've gone for the Sikkens two-stage waterbased treatment, with a coat of wood preserver on first. In theory I should be able to get one coat preserver, one base coat and two top coats in two days. That's based on drying times, so I'm prepared for it to take longer. If you are on a tight time scale I believe the Bugess treatment is the quickest to use as its drying time is quite short.

OK you need to make sure all the drain channels are nice and clear then plug the holes under the waist rail and put some clear cuprinol 5 Star into the runners which should go into the channels and into the drain holes but be warned that the cuprinol may need up to a week to go off properly if you cant get some night heat from the sun into it, also if should have a couple of coats of cuprinol, it might be easier to use a hypodermic or similar to put it in with.I ask about window channels as I'm not sure how to get treatment into them.
