Advice on obtaining paint please

Post by minorinterest »

Hi.
As new owners please forgive us if this is a silly question but where can we get paint for our Minor 1000?
The colour is Trafalgar Blue ( code BU37 I think) and we need some to do some touching in for now, (by brush or spray can). Later this year or overwinter we hope to be able to do more serious renovation with a spray gun.

Half a litre or a litre would do for now. Is there a supplier in Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire ? The ones 'phoned so far all say that cellulose is no longer available, and water-based would have to be specially mixed and therefore very expensive. Thanks. Colin & Tricia

You can buy pre-mixed spray cans and touch-up pots by mail order from the Minor specialists.

I'm told there are still companies that will supply mixed cellulose for classic car use, and grey primer and thinners are easily available (eg. I bought some on eBay a couple of weeks ago). Hopefully somebody else can recommend a company they have used recently...

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Hi Colin & Tricia you can still get can's and touch up tin's made to the colour of your choice made up in Halfords its listed under BLMC on their system, I had a couple of cans of Smoke Grey made up a little while ago and the match was pretty good and of course you wont have to pay postage, I think the cans are £10:00 and the touch ups £7:00.
Cheers

Thanks for the replies and advice Kevin and Alex.
I had tried one Halfords branch but didn't get much response. I'll try a different one. Just flicking through some old Classic car mags I found a reference to www.vintagepaint.com and I'm going to try them too.
Thanks again.

I recently used the Vintage Paint Company mentioned in this thread, they give an excellent service and were very helpful on the phone. They will supply cellulose in copious amounts for a full respray....

john davey of middlesbrough 01642221153 will supply celly as long as its for a classic car or non motoring such as a metal green house, boat anything that dosent have wheels(a stupid eu reg)Iv'e just bought a litre of black for£16.99 plus vat Don't know about sending it off by post. The guy said they will continue to supply celly as long as there is a demand. They can only mix colours for older vehicles since they dont get the colour charts for newer vehicles.
