Morris Badges

Post by Epaish »

Hi everyone!
I've just got a '59 Minor 1000 4-door saloon :D that I'm going to work on and hopefully restore to its former glory! Only problem is, there appears to be a badge missing, as there are 3 holes on the driver's door, just below the window.
The car was made in South Africa, where it was a British Embassy Consul's car. I thought that there might have been an Embassy-related badge there, but other than that, I have no clue!
Anyone got any ideas what could have gone there??
Thanks!!

Could it have been a mirror?

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Could it have been an Embassy plate i.e. like a pool car?

If it was an Embassy plate, wouldn't it be instead of the ordinary number plates?? Sorry, don't have much knowledge in this area! :-?

How about a wind deflector?
I wouldn't discount the mirror idea either as I have seen some with quite long bases.
As the bodywork is curved there a plate wouldn't have fitted very well.

Didn't the wind deflectors fit onto the quarterlight - think my fathers did and there's no way he would ever have drilled holes in his paint!

If it was the British Embassy Consul's car I bet there are pictures of it somewhere in a newspaper archive.
That would give you the answer and be a nice addition to the cars history.

I'd take a guess that it wasn't drilled by a conscientious owner - the holes aren't straight.

Sounds like it could be a badge to indicate that it is part of the embassy pool. Although a self-cling sticker would have been simpler...

Be interested to know. :)
Happy Minoring!
