Wheel bearings for ital hubs

Post by Matt »

Hi Guys

I know wheel bearings are different when using ital/marina hubs. Im intending to change mine before the national and was wondering what wheel bearings I need? Are they ital/marina bearings or something special?

Cheers

It depends upon which version of the fitting kit you have. The base bearings are usually the standard Marina/Ital ones. If you have a Marina stub axle then that's it. If you have the Minor stub axle then you also need a spacer - but "should" be able to remove it from the old bearings when you take them off. NB it is NOT the standard Minor spacer, but a bit that presses into the bearing and then fits over the stub axle and its collar. see: http://morrisminorspares.co.uk/shop/adv ... 9b&x=0&y=0
You can see the spacer sitting inside the inner bearing on the left of the pictures.

The spacer does not go into the bearing, its just a shim cap to retain the hub as the Minor stub axle diameter is much smaller than the Ital/Marina one.
If the stub axle has the splined end its an Ital/ Marina one and will require std bearings if not then its the Minor one which requires the 'specials' from ESM and the like.

Remove the bearings and oil seal and take to your bearing specialist they will be able to supply otherwise try Charlie Ware

If you go to the bearing specialist it would be useful if you post the bearing numbers for future reference

Thanks

i thought the bearings were standard marina. i thought you were just paying for the spacer thing when you buy the kit. therefore, whenever you need new bearings, you would just buy standard marina ones. im pretty sure dad tested the sizes of marina standard and the ones he bought from ESM, and they looked the same...but, as im sure you all know, i am no professional!!!

The Minor has just the thread at the end of the stub axle to which you fit the std washer and hub nut, the Marins has a broached spline then a thread. The spline takes a splined washer rather than the plain one with the Minor stub axle.
Drop me an email an I'll send you a pic tomorrow.
