Traveller - Order of fitting wood and side panels

Post by MGFmad »

Just thinking ahead to replacing some of the wood that needs doing, (mid rail and wheel arch) It was easy to come off by cutting it out but thinking of putting it back together, is it possible to fit the wood frame then slide the aluminium side panels in later, at a guess I doubt it but wondered if anyone had done it this way.

Reason I am asking is it would be better space wise get the frame back on ASAP and I could then paint the side panels later when the car is being resprayed, rather than paint them separately.

No, you can just about get the rear panels in with a major struggle but the front ones are impossible because the bottom screws are inaccessible when the frame is attached to the body.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Contact Foremans - the wood experts and they will give you a write-up of how to do it. But the normal way is to fit a complete side. It's quite a job!
