Re Morris minor with twin Su

Post by londonboy »

Hi
Hope some one can help me, just got hold of morris minor with twin su on it, it had not been running for a while but the person I got it from had set the twin su up and had checked timing and set tappets. I started it up today fine but the tickover is far to fast and I can just not slow it down no matter what I try. The choke is set right.
Thanks for any help given

Hello LB,

if the choke cam has clearance, then push each throttle in turn on the carburettors to see if the engine slows down, this can indicate that they are not set up correctly and need balancing. remember also that each carburettor has it's own idle screw.

May be that the throttle cable is too tight - and the throttles can't get home to base. Loosen the cable clamp and let the throttles close fully. I assume it's got a suitable number of return springs ? Should be one for each carb + another for the cable. ie Total of 3 .
