Customising a Minor.

Post by wanderinstar »

I would like to hear from anyone who has removed the 4" ridge from bonnet and also removed the numberplate area from boot lid. I have seen a red minor in the Custom and Modified gallery belonging to Roy "Red Moggy" Moulding, this is the sort of thing I am hoping to do.Image

I like the bonnet treatment, but like the quirkiness of the 4" strip too much to do it myself :D

I can't imagine that's legal - you can hardly read it. The rear one looks to be smaller than standard too.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

love the look of a custom moggy especialy when it is subtle like this red one. the black v8 on here is really special and has quite a few custom bits and bobs done to it. So go for it!

The process is called 'pancaking'. Honest. To do it you need to do a small section at a time, say 4". Cut the bonnet moulding away leaving a hole, which then needs filling with new sheet steel cut to size. When done, dress welds nicely, quick skim of lead and you're done!

Hey W'star, I always liked the way he radius the corners of the bonnet. As for mine if you want to see a smooth bonnet have a look at retro cars mag this month there is a nice moggy centerfold ;)

Wow a thread that starts with picks of my car! Wish it looked like that still!

I still have the strip in the bonnet the picture seems to hide it well. The boot is fairly simple to do but takes a little patience. A quicker way may be a glass one?
No the front plate location is not legal im in the process of recessing a new one into the lower part of the valence.
The rear plate is to small but the letters/numbers are large enough for it not to be seen as im taking the [Don't swear or you will be banned - Admin].
Cheers guys

Yes, recently my father in law passed away. so we will be going back. one day we will live there auckland that is!

Back on topic, so many people say about plate size but generally I think that if the plate is clear it's legalish and down to officer discretion. My friend is a traffic officer and he has told me that whatever the offence it's down to them whether you walk or they ticket.

So be nice when stopped!

By the letter of the law im sure there are things on any custom or modified vehicle that could get you picked up. Like so many things in life its down to how you behave your attitude and whether your seen to be taking the ****.

Sorry to hear bout your loss mate. Look me up if you get out there im planning a roadster pick up with 4age power to keep me ocupied.

The radiused bonnet corners do look very good. It reminds me of the Chris Nash Minor from the the 80`s, which was on the cover of the first Street Machine I bought.
