Do they go off when you unplug the wires from the brake light switch? It's on the front right floor of the engine bay, screwed into the top of a three-way fitting.

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

How about if you open and close one of the bleed nipples? If that doesn't do anything, the switch probably needs replacing.

Apparently the Quinton Hazel switch made for Series Land Rovers is a straight swap and more reliable than the ones commonly sold for Minors. When you unscrew the switch, hold the body of the junction securely so it doesn't twist and damage the pipes. If you use a syringe or dropper to fill the new switch up with fresh fluid you might get away without needing to bleed the brakes afterwards.

Well done! Did you manage to get the Land Rover type?

Apologies if that was unclear, I mean moggy switches in general, how many of these threads have we had where people have had problems with brake light switches? Being a safety item it just shouldn't happen! I never got the chance to run that switch for more than 7,000 or so, but thats still more than twice the service i saw from the other switches.
