vacuum pipe

Post by sidsmith »

:( not sure whether this thread should be here but here goes, the vacuum pipe that comes from the carb to a funny bulbus bit and then goes into the dizzy, what is the bulbus bit for and could I possibly replace the whole pipe and use a one piece rubber one as the actual pipe has broken off the bulbus bit by the temp' manifold.

Well -the later Mini managed just fine without a bulbous bit. Supposedly it was to catch any petrol condensate - really not necessary. However - it is a vacuum line, so either rigid plastic or metal should be used. Soft plastic or rubber will just collapse when the vacuum is applied.
