An idea for the board

Post by Matt »

We have lots of people on this board who have major and not so major projects...

I was thinking we could have a "Members Minors" section (or similar) under the general discussion heading where we could post pictures of our cars and show progress, rather than getting them mixed up in the general discussion

This idea works well on other forums I use...

What do other people think?

Great idea, and a good way of posting progress.

Ah, but this one's better. ;)

It does sound like a good idea, like a Member's Garage. :)

There was a members Gallery, but it broke after a hack quite a long time ago. Cam and I revently discussed reviving it. Quite a lot of thinking to be done first though, as there were problems with 'inappropriate' pictures being posted before!

Don't know about the other moderators, but this revival is news to me. However, surely moderating pictures is no different to moderating the content of members posts if required?

As a newbie this idea seems perfect to me. Would be awesome to have somewhere to gain inspiration from!

In my experince they can work quite well, I used to moderate on a polo forum (please pm me if you want the link as i undrstand you not wanting me to post links) we chose to imply a set of rules on the area limiting the posts to the following:
The creator of a thread listed all the info they wanted, and all pics etc. then if people had questions then they could ask them in subsequent posts. The creator would then modify the original post rather than creating a new one.
Any "chat" was deleted, this kept it concise. We found this worked quite well and kept the rescources central, and reduced external linking too :)

The addition and monitoring of such topics is in my view not a problem, indeed it has already been successfully achieved on the other board.

And putting it all in a thread is so much more simpler than trying to cope with the vagaries of a Gallery system, from an admin and user point of view! :D
