Window winders

Post by GeorgeHurst »

Hi,

After replacing my front door windows I am finding that the drivers side one keeps 'unhooking' from the winding mechanism, and consequently doesn't wind back up.

There is a brass runner at the bottom of the window, should the widget on the end of the winding mechanism run beneath this or inside it? (I hope that makes sense!) If it does go inside it, how does one get it in?!!

Cheers, George

Yes - should be inside - slides in from the end.

It's many years since i did this on a Minor - but I have recently battled with the same job on my TR7 - and it's a nightmare to get all the bits in the right place. Good luck!

I have just done this and it was remarkably simple, thank God!

Basically... line the 'widget' that is supposed to run in the channel beneath the window glass up with the channel, put some of those big adjustable pliers (correct name eludes me) around the two parts and squeeze tightly. The widget will then pop in very easily. Job done :-)

Are you thinking of Mole Grips George? Or otherwise known generically as adjustable locking grips

Not mole grips... maybe a monkey wrench?! They look like pliers but the jaws are at a slight angle and you can slide them apart to allow them to open wider. Though I am sure mole grips would do the same job.

Sounds like 'water pump' pliers.

Had a problem similar to this where actuating arm came out of metal track at bottom of window. Managed to reassemble but when closing the window, where it comes to the cross-over with the door lock arm it obviously clashes as it jumps over it after meetting increased resistance. When looked att eh actuating arm appwears to be twisted with the top being nearer the door skin than the bottom. Is this right or is the arm twisted?
