Bottom door seal

Hi All
Trying to fit bottom door seal (EXC122) into the grooved rail under the door. Tried vaseline and brake oil but will it go more than 2" into the rail. Any tips or should I just leave it off.
As for window side strips they would only slide in half way and jam but found by putting a small hole in the bottom of each strip and tying a piece of string if I pulled as well as pushing they went in easy,

I must confess to not fitting mine either!, but I have got the seal that fits on the inside face of the door!
I do however find that there is quite a breeze at times which comes from under the door panel - I can't remember if there was a plastic skin secured to door prior to fitting the panel?

I might have got totally the wrong part but when I fitted ours there was a flat piece of metal with holes in and then the rubber. My rubber came without any holes in so I used a hole punch to make holes at the same distance as the holes in the metal and used the little clips (same as door card fixtures) -inserted these into rubber hole and then some more to fix the metal plate to the car door. This was how I was advised to do it by the supplier. Does this make any sense?

Are you talking about the metal strip under the door? If so it is usually spot welded to the door

Under the door the metal housing is welded to the bottom of the door. The rubber extrusion then goes into the metal groove. It is NOT possible to feed it in at one end and just pull it along, what has to be done is to push it under the metal lip on one side and then use a lever such as a flat paint scraper to push it under the other side. You'll still need lubrication and plenty of patience, but it DOES reduce the draughts. With all seals in place a Minor should be virtually draught free.

Thanks, the seal is in, I did think on those lines but thought it is going scratch the base of the door I have just painted. A screwdriver was needed to push it in then a paint scraper to fully seat it. But a hot sunny day laid on my back, shorts on, no different to laying on a beach in spain, well it was, No Beer!! However having replaced all the seals now on drivers side the passenger side wait.

I think Lou's thinking of the one that goes on the inside face at the bottom of the door; you guys are talking about the one on the base, aren't you?

Phyllis hasn't got those - looked far too difficult!

Yep, right again! sorry wrong bit of rubber - there are so many! I have done it - I think we soaked the rubber in not quite boiling water and it did go on but was a real pain. Good luck!
