Wiring a clock

Post by NIPete »

Hi. Would like some advice on wiring a clock. have purchased Kienzle clock 12V Neg earth for my Minor. Proposing to mount it below the heater casing. Car is negative earth. Clock has purple spade connection marked +, black spade connection marked - and spring-loaded push in bulb cable into circular socket. Can anyone please advise on correct and neat connections. Thanks.

The + needs to be connected to a fused permanent live, the - needs to be connected to a good clean gropund point and the lamp holder wire needs to be connected to the switched side of the small switch underneath the speedo.

Thanks for the quick reply. Still a bit nervous about making connections. Can you elaborate on exactly where you insert the cables. Clock has short leads on it which would obviously need extended. Heard about electrical fires and want to be certain I am connecting properly. Thanks

What, if any, sort of connections does the clock have on the back?

Old car clocks are fine if you use your car every day but if you leave it standing for too long the clock will flatten the battery.

Can't agree with that - my TR7 has a clock (I know!! - it's shortly to be changed for an oil pressure gauge which it doesn't have as standard !) - the car was garaged over the winter - pulled it out last week and it cranked up perfectly after standing for 4 months since last 'start-up' and the clock still had perfect time too.
