Front Wing Repairs.

Post by wanderinstar »

I have a pair of wings on my car that have gone to the rear, down the flange joint.
I also have a pair of decent S/H ones. Trouble is one of them has corroded round the headlamp area. It is the bottom half that has gone. I have made a repair panel for the outside of wing. But the reinforcing ring with the captive nuts in for headlamp bucket is not very good. As it is about 3/4"wide with a flange on each side AND semicircular, was just wondering if,
a; anyone sold these as repair panels. or
b; anyone has made one, and how?

I think you might be refering to the headlamp ring. Never found anyone listing them for the Morris Minor but...

http://www.carpanels.co.uk/index_catalogues.htm

They're standard 7" headlamps so are used all over the place, just put a pair in my frontwings. they don't come with captive nuts but nuts could be added or just use nuts and bolts, or just use screws through the holes like they did on fords.

I think Ian means the section of wing where the headlamp bowl fits on ? Surely easy enough to just weld in some steel Ian - it will be mostly hiddeen by the bowl when installed.

I do wish I could draw on here. What is it they say about a picture and a thousand words.
Steve, Thanks for that. But is not the bowl that I want. On the inside of the wing there is a reinforcing ring that the captive nuts are fitted to. This was the bit I wanted. The trouble with making it was that both the inside and the outside of the ring had flanges on.
Roy, I already have the outer panel made. It's that narrow ring inside the wing that I mean.

I cheated and used smell nuts and bolts with washers.

just realised the link i gave isn't quite to the right place. It's not the bowl I'm on about it's the ring that's spot welded into the wing that the rest screws to. It's a standard part for most cars using 7" lamp units.

Look on the hadrian site I linked above, under the "classic range" for Morris Marina. It's listed there as the headlamp ring and is part number 99-01-002.

Steve, thank you. That WAS the bit I needed. But have made something up now with just a single flange on. Thanks again.
